Fakuma 2023 – Sustainability from the idea to series production
Overath, August 15, 2023 BARLOG Plastics will be presenting its broad portfolio of materials and services at Fakuma 2023 in Hall A3, Stand 3209, which focuses on sustainable plastics solutions. Starting with new materials, recycling compounds and holistic concepts for sustainable component development, the company thus underlines its commitment to environmentally conscious solutions in the plastics industry.
ECO Consulting service as a holistic approach to sustainable component development
The BARLOG ECO Consulting service is a holistic approach that starts at the design stage of plastic components to ensure durable, repair-friendly and recyclable component design and to introduce ecological factors as early as the material selection process. At the same time, the use of computer aided engineering (CAE) in product development ensures optimum component quality and increases resource efficiency, offering not only ecological but also economic benefits. An important step towards sustainable plastic components is the production of injection-molded prototypes and small batches from recycled plastics and using green electricity. This enables a reduction in the carbon footprint of the components right from the start.

Sustainable material series KEBALLOY ECO
BARLOG Plastics is also reaffirming its commitment to sustainability in supplying high-volume production with recyclate-based compounds of the KEBALLOY ECO product range that have been specially developed for demanding applications and meet the highest quality standards. These include glass- and carbon-fiber-reinforced compounds manufactured on the basis of PET bottle recycling, enabling high-performance components with a smaller environmental footprint. In addition, the company uses chemically recycled PA6 from fishing nets to develop customized specialty compounds with special properties such as thermal conductivity and electromagnetic shielding. Additionally, BARLOG Plastics offers PC/ABS compounds with recycled PC that can be used for painted and chrome-plated components in the interior of electric vehicles, combining aesthetic demands with an ecological approach by reusing valuable resources. The use of recycled polycarbonate reduces the material’s product carbon footprint by over 40% compared to virgin PC/ABS.
