Silver sustainability award for BARLOG Plastics
Overath, October 12, 2022 After BARLOG Plastics GmbH was already awarded the bronze medal in 2021 by the sustainability (“Corporate Social Responsibility”, short CSR) rating company EcoVadis for its commitment to environmental and CSR projects, the company managed to improve its rating this year. The result: the silver medal!
BARLOG Plastics receives EcoVadis silver medal for sustainability
BARLOG Plastics GmbH has been using electricity from sustainable sources for some time now and covers its energy needs with the help of its own photovoltaic system. Charging columns for electric vehicles and, of course, support for converting the vehicle fleet to sustainable drives are just some of the activities the company has already implemented.
Since 2019, the company has been steadily adding sustainable materials to its product range. As a result, a broad portfolio of high-quality compounds based on recyclates is now available. The range extends from PET to PC, PC/ABS, PA12 and PPS to PEEK, and is being continuously expanded.
Not only the product range but also the service portfolio focuses on sustainable solutions: BARLOG ECO-Consulting evaluates sustainability potentials from material selection to series production and thereby supports its own customers on their way to sustainable products.
Sustainability and social responsibility are essential values for BARLOG Plastics GmbH, which significantly determine its actions. “We are very pleased that we were able to improve our rating and have now received the EcoVadis Silver Medal,” says Peter Barlog, Managing Partner of BARLOG Plastics GmbH.
Improvement in the areas of environment and labor and human rights
Whether energy efficiency or minimum standards in the supply chain – many CSR fields of action are crucial for business success. BARLOG Plastics has significantly improved in the areas of “environment” as well as “labor and human rights” and thus achieved the silver medal. The use of a heat recovery system and the purchase of renewable energies have been particularly target-oriented in this regard. “We are proud that our committed actions are bearing fruit. At the same time, we take it as an incentive to keep going and continue to give high priority to the issue of sustainability in the future,” says Peter Barlog. “We have an open ear for the ideas and suggestions of our employees and are thrilled at how committed the team is to contributing.”
Outlook of further fields of action
For 2022, BARLOG Plastics is focusing its efforts on tasks related to the measurability and reporting of sustainability, environmental protection, and social and ethical responsibility, in addition to the continuous development of its sustainable product portfolio. For example, by mid-year, the company had joined the Science-Based Target Initiative (SBTi) and set sustainability targets for the entire company that are in line with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 °C.
“We believe that industry, and the chemical industry in particular, has a fundamental role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We want to do our part by reducing our CO2 footprint by at least 50% by 2030 compared to the 2018 reference year,” Peter Barlog concluded.
