For many years, lightweight construction was the parade discipline of aircraft and aerospace technology, always associated with low volumes, a lot of manufacturing and a little “money doesn’t matter”. With increasing requirements for the reduction of CO2 emissions in automotive engineering, new challenges of electromobility and the endeavor to save every superfluous kilogram in transport and logistics as well, lightweight construction has reached mass production.
Today, the challenge is to use intelligent overall concepts comprising lightweight materials, component geometry and process technology to create solutions that significantly reduce weight while maintaining the same performance and enable cost-effective production in large volumes. Plastics are the predestined materials for this challenge. Their low density, coupled with the design freedom and cost-effectiveness of the injection molding process, enables the production of cost-effective large series with materials that are tailored to the specific requirements of the component function.
Building on more than 15 years of experience in the implementation of metal replacement and lightweight construction projects, BARLOG Plastics GmbH offers a wide range of products, services and know-how for lightweight construction projects of its customers and partners.
