Case Study “Box for you”
“Box for you” – Sustainable project support from the idea to series production
The topic of sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint are now often the focus of new product developments, which was also essential in the development of the “Box for you” by a Swiss start-up. In this case study, we show you how the customer, in collaboration with BARLOG Plastics, managed to bring the product to market quickly, safely and cost-effectively thanks to the right choice of materials and the right development services.
Project description
“Box for you” is an innovative project that was realized by a young start-up company from Switzerland in cooperation with BARLOG Plastics. BARLOG Plastics supported the start-up from the development to the market launch of the product. The “Box for you” is a plastic box consisting of several plastic components. It can be filled with food or objects and is used, for example, to provide hikers with refreshments on guided hikes in Switzerland. The “Box for you” is available in numerous colors and designs and can also be customized (e.g. as a promotional item). e.g. as a promotional item).
Material selection
The material KEBALLOY ECO E302 natural was used for the project. This material is a recycled PET obtained from PET bottles. It is food-safe and recyclable, which enables a closed cycle when returned. This contributes to the sustainability of the product and underlines BARLOG Plastics’ commitment to environmentally friendly solutions.
Development services
BARLOG Plastics supported the start-up in various phases of the project. This began with advice on material selection and concept design. A production-ready design was then created and several optimization loops were run through. An injection moulding simulation was carried out to further optimize the production process. In the end, BARLOG Plastics managed to optimize the geometry of the box so that the two interlocking components, which directly protect the food, fit together perfectly and prevent any possible leakage of viscous food.

Prototypes and pre-series
Four prototype tools were produced (box, lid, handle, clip). A pre-series of 1,000 pieces in various colors was then produced. This allowed the start-up to test the product and gather feedback before going into small series production.
Small series and assembly
The small series comprised up to 10,000 boxes as “bridge tooling”. The assembly of the lower part with handle and clip as well as the printing of the clip were also carried out by BARLOG Plastics. The “Box for you” logo and the “Recycled PET” seal were printed.
Conclusion
Thanks to the collaboration with BARLOG Plastics, the start-up was able to bring its product to market quickly, safely and cost-effectively. The use of recycled PET contributes to the sustainability of the product and shows that high quality and environmental compatibility can go hand in hand.
