BARLOG Plastics receives EcoVadis bronze medal for sustainability and social responsibility
Overath, 12.01.2022: Sustainability and social responsibility are essential values for BARLOG Plastics GmbH, which significantly determine its actions. In order to make its commitment to sustainability, environmental protection and social and ethical responsibility measurable and transparent along the supply chain, the company took part in the EcoVadis Corporate Social Responsibility Rating (CSR Rating) for the first time in December 2021 at the first attempt.
BARLOG Plastics receives EcoVadis Bronze Medal
„We are very pleased to have received the EcoVadis Bronze Medal at the first attempt,” says Peter Barlog, Managing Partner of BARLOG Plastics GmbH. „Actually, our primary goal was first to make our efforts measurable and to use them as a basis for a continuous improvement process. The fact that we receive confirmation right away in the first attempt that we belong to the top 50% of the evaluated companies shows us that we are on the right track with our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility.”
BARLOG Plastics GmbH has been working exclusively with electricity from sustainable sources at its headquarters in Overath since 01 January 2021 and covers part of its energy requirements with the help of its own photovoltaic system. Since September 2021, there have been four charging points for electric vehicles on the company’s premises to support the conversion of the vehicle fleet to sustainable drives. These charging points are also available to customers to charge their electric vehicle during a visit.
BARLOG Plastics has been actively adding sustainable materials to its product range since 2019. As a result, a broad portfolio of high-quality compounds based on recyclates is now available. The range extends from PET to PC, PC/ABS, PA12 and PPS to PEEK and is being continuously expanded.
EcoVadis and science-based targets as the basis for sustainability goals
„As you would expect from medium-sized family businesses, we first started by acting where we recognised the greatest levers with which we could positively influence our carbon footprint and that of our customers,” says Peter Barlog. „Over time, we have realised that measurability and communication along the supply chain also play an increasingly important role. That’s why we opted for an independent assessment by EcoVadis.”
For the year 2022, BARLOG Plastics’ efforts will focus not only on the continuous development of its sustainable product portfolio, but also on tasks related to the measurability and reporting of sustainability, environmental protection, and social and ethical responsibility. For example, the company plans to join the science-based target initiative (SBTi) by the middle of the year and set sustainability targets for the entire company that are in line with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
„We believe that industry, and in particular the chemical industry, has a fundamental role to play in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We want to play our part by reducing our carbon footprint by at least 50% by 2030 compared to the 2018 reference year,” says Peter Barlog.
