BARLOG Plastics is taking part in European Week for Waste Reduction with a mobile phone collection campaign
Overath, 8 December 2025 – This year, BARLOG Plastics GmbH took part in European Waste Prevention Week (EWAV) with its own mobile phone collection campaign. The event took place from 22 to 30 November 2025 under the slogan ‘Repair rather than throw away – prevent electronic waste’. BARLOG Plastics is the first company in the Rheinisch-Bergisch district to support the initiative launched by the Zero Waste Club of the Bergisch Waste Management Association (BAV) and is taking part in the collection of end-of-life mobile phones and tablets for proper recycling.
Recovering valuable materials from end-of-life devices
Millions of end-of-life mobile phones are kept in households, even though they contain valuable materials such as gold, silver, copper and other metals. Through separate collection and proper recycling, these materials can be recovered and reused as raw materials.
Furthermore, proper disposal helps to prevent risks associated with batteries and rechargeable batteries that have been disposed of incorrectly.
“As a company in the plastics industry, we deal extensively with materials and their use across various fields of application,” emphasises Frank Barlog, managing partner of BARLOG Plastics GmbH. “With our mobile phone collection campaign, we aim to raise our employees’ awareness of how to handle end-of-life devices and support the proper collection of electronic waste.”
Kick-off in Overath: Collection bin for old mobile phones
In collaboration with BAV-Abfallberatung, the first collection bin for end-of-life mobile phones and tablets was installed at the Overath site on 26 November 2025. Employees were encouraged to hand in devices they no longer use.
All collected devices will subsequently be channelled through the designated recycling channels. In addition, BAV provided information materials explaining the correct disposal of electrical appliances, the handling of lithium-ion batteries, and various options for reuse and recycling.
Raising awareness of the handling of waste electrical equipment
Through this campaign, BARLOG Plastics aims to raise awareness of the proper collection and disposal of waste electrical equipment. The mobile phone collection campaign complements the company’s existing activities in the areas of information, education and the responsible handling of materials and recyclable resources.
“It is important to us to involve our staff in such campaigns and to highlight practical ways in which end-of-life electrical appliances can be properly collected and recycled,” said Frank Barlog.
