BARLOG Plastics introduces innovative tool for early assessment of the product carbon footprint in the product development of plastic components
Overath, 11|03|2024 – Calculating the carbon footprint of injection moulded parts is an important basis for improving sustainability. Until now, determining the product carbon footprint (PCF) has often involved a great deal of effort and high costs. BARLOG Plastics has therefore developed a new calculation tool that makes it possible to estimate and optimise the PCF of plastic components at an early stage of development. Development engineers and sustainability officers can thus be supported both in product development and in rethinking existing plastic articles in terms of sustainability.
ECO-Consulting for a sustainable transformation
The new PCF calculation tool is part of BARLOG Plastics’ existing ECO-Consulting service and offers a new resource for assessing and minimising the carbon footprint of plastic products. By estimating the carbon footprint at an early stage with regard to material, production process (focus on plastic injection moulding) through to the transport of the product, this tool makes it possible to analyse and compare data bases for different product variants.
“With our new PCF tool, we are setting an important milestone towards sustainable product development and offering our customers a data-based foundation for making their products more environmentally friendly,” says Tobias Haedecke, Director of Engineering at BARLOG Plastics. “We are convinced that this tool will not only open our customers’ eyes to sustainable material alternatives, but will also accelerate the development process from the idea to the series production of individual components towards more efficient and sustainable plastic products.”
Promoting the circular economy and achieving global sustainability goals
As a full-service provider for all aspects of plastics technology, BARLOG Plastics sees ECO-Consulting as an important contribution to promoting the circular economy and achieving global sustainability goals. The question of how components can be made more sustainable is often complex and presents development engineers with major challenges. The possible solutions are always customised to the respective component and show which adjustments can be made to reduce the product carbon footprint. BARLOG Plastics offers ECO-Consulting as a new service to overcome these new challenges and provide companies with orientation and guidance in the creation of sustainable components. In this way, the focus can be placed on sustainability at an early stage of the project. Interested companies are cordially invited to discuss the new possibilities of ECO-Consulting and to receive impulses for their own projects.
