BARLOG Plastics GmbH wins KEM Sustainability Award 2025
Overath, November 19, 2025 – Barlog Plastics GmbH has received the KEM Sustainability Award 2025. The company was honored for its ECO Calculator, a free online tool that calculates the carbon footprint of plastic injection molded parts during the product development stage and identifies opportunities for optimization. The ECO Calculator makes it possible to identify the key factors influencing the carbon footprint and to compare material and geometry alternatives. The tool thus helps companies make informed decisions for more resource-efficient production.
The KEM Sustainability Award is presented annually to companies that develop practical solutions in the areas of sustainability, environmental awareness, and social responsibility. This year, the jury recognized the ECO Calculator’s technology, which can contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions in the plastics industry.
ECO Calculator: Transparency and innovation for sustainable production
“We are delighted to receive this award for the ECO Calculator and thus also for our commitment to a more sustainable plastics industry,” explains Peter Barlog, Managing Director of BARLOG Plastics GmbH. “The tool is not only a calculation aid for development engineers, but also a building block for reducing our Scope 3 emissions.”
Scope 3 emissions arise in the value chain through the processing and use of products. They are particularly difficult to measure and influence in complex supply chains. As part of BARLOG Plastics’ sustainability strategy, the ECO Calculator contributes to the responsible use of the company’s products in the long term.
The ECO Calculator was specially developed to evaluate and improve the impact of material selection and component design early in the development phase, when sufficient data for a carbon footprint or life cycle assessment (LCA) is not yet available. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring that initial results can be determined quickly and easily.
This transparency enables companies to make targeted decisions during the development of new plastic products that improve their environmental balance without compromising on quality or functionality. The ECO Calculator is therefore a practical tool for the circular economy and CO₂ reduction in plastics production.
