Efficiency through rapid tooling and prototyping – BARLOG Plastics at K 2025

Overath, September 05, 2025 From October 8 to 15, 2025, BARLOG Plastics GmbH will be presenting itself at K in Düsseldorf as a high-performance partner for innovative plastics solutions. At the joint stand of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hall 6, Stand D76), the company will present its latest developments in the areas of material innovation, prototyping, simulation, and manufacturing technology. The focus will be on practical and customizable solutions that specifically address the increasing demands in terms of sustainability, functionality, and cost-effectiveness. Trade visitors can expect a wide range of materials and services that will set trends for the plastics industry.

Rapid tooling at BARLOG Plastics accelerates product development and reduces costs

Rapid tooling enables BARLOG Plastics to manufacture injection molding tools for prototypes, pre-series and small series particularly quickly and cost-effectively – based directly on 3D CAD data. This method combines the precision and robustness of classic mold making with the speed of rapid prototyping. “Unlike 3D printing, rapid tooling allows almost all commercially available thermoplastics to be processed under near-series conditions, offering complete design freedom and short iteration cycles,” says Frank Barlog, managing partner of BARLOG Plastics GmbH.

The protosys® division, an independent unit within BARLOG Plastics, specializes in the rapid and flexible implementation of such projects. Prefabricated mold inserts enable tool modifications to be carried out cost-effectively and in a time-saving manner—for example, in the case of material adjustments, geometry optimizations, or functional integration. With a modern in-house tool shop and an injection molding technical center with 16 machines (clamping forces from 6 to 450 tons), BARLOG Plastics offers ideal conditions for the production of prototypes through to small series. For applications with particularly high requirements in terms of precision or temperature resistance, steel molds are also available, enabling near-series validation of high-performance plastics.

Two particular advantages: On the one hand, the knowledge gained in rapid tooling flows directly into series production – for example, through optimized tool geometries, adapted process parameters, or validated material data. This results in a continuous development process that not only saves time and money but also minimizes technical risks. Second, the maximum potential for accelerating the market launch of new plastic products can be exploited in rapid tooling through the use of compounds from the BARLOG Plastics portfolio. From the rapid availability of many sample materials to the simultaneous development of customer-specific compounds, synergies arise that offer customers a real competitive advantage.

Special injection molding processes as a particular strength

In addition to standard injection molding processes, BARLOG Plastics has particular expertise in implementing demanding processes such as silicone, magnet, multi-component injection molding, and
overmolding of metal parts. By combining CAE services and material analyses, potential sources of error can be eliminated before the first tool is built, allowing potential weak points to be identified early in the development process and saving time and expensive correction loops. The BARLOG Plastics team demonstrates this expertise in more than 300 customer projects every year.
